New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

Not sure which - SW/FW - or the new version numbers yet, but the night before last all my boxes were down with "DL" and that twirling set of arrows spinning on the boxes' displays.  (2 DCT-6412's and 1 DCH-3416).

Then earlier today I noticed ta few positive changes:

The Title Search accessed via the Menu is much better. Instead of scrolling through the alphabet one at a time for the five letters, there is a grid of the entire alphabet on the left part of the screen and the program listing on the right. You just select each letter with the arrow and Enter buttons, there is a "SP" character for spaces, and you can save searches.  Pretty quick, too.

Also, the missing-in-action Recording light on the DCH-3416 is now working.  I started to check the diags screen for the SW/FW versions but my wife - who was watching TV at the time - started throwing fairly heavy objects at me so I desisted!  I'll post back when I get the versions and more changes as I find them.

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

If it started rolling out yesterday, that means we'll get it here in about 1 year. We get stuff last.

People in nearby neighborhoods are getting U-verse and they are liking it big time. A few co-workers
have it , and some friends have it and they  are all quite happy.  Let see, that means we'll probably
have it available here in about 2 yrs, maybe.

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

We got the new search this week. I like the save feature.  Just wish you could
type in more letters (gotta complain about SOMETHING).

And so it goes....  the search function is not working today.  Shows all my saved searches, but won't search with the saved or manually entered.  It's Comcastical.

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

Any way to delete the saved searches?  I was testing the save and put por_ and pressed save and...

Just kidding...I put ER and pressed save and its still on there with no way to delete it.  Am I missing something here?

We have UVerse available now in my area and I am very tempted.  Reviews online are mixed but you get 200 channels, DVR with 4 tuners, Multiroom viewing, HD package, internet at 10mps for LESS than Comcast.  Maybe I'll ask Comcast about that! wink

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

I have found no way to delete them. I've had the 75.xx software since November, but we just got the 75.59 update in July.

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

I found that Comcast had updated my Motorola DVR software around the beginning of September.  I have noticed two changes.

The first was the new Title Search method describe by J-Mac.

The other was an extra choice to have the DVR automatically extend the scheduled recording time by xx minutes (default is 30 min) when you select to record a sporting event from the Guide.  This is great.  Now I do not have to select the next program following the sporting event just so I do not miss the ending if it runs longer.  I do not know if this will present itself for other programs that may run longer than the Guide indicates.  It did not show for the Presidential debates, but they ended on time.  I will have to see what happens when the Academy Awards come up.

I do not know if the key-queuing problem has been fixed.  I've not noticed it, but that may only be because the DVR has effectively "trained" me not to enter multiple commands quickly.  I tried recreating it by starting 2 recordings and playing back a previous recording and then trying multiple commands.  They all were executed, which doesn't prove anything.

I checked the firmware level version number and it appears to be the same as one mentioned before.  This is what I found:
Firmware: 16.53
Software ver: 75-59 - a25p2-2.S1.r-8

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

I received the A25 update Wednesday, 10/15.  The time extension option (which you can and could previously do for any recording by modifying it prior to recording) appears for any "live" program.  The transport function response to the remote appears to have been fixed, but I mostly use the 30-second skip and 15-second rewind, which still work.  There are new 5-minute advance (page up) and rewind (page down) functions, which may be useful on rare occasions.  The search is a bit easier to use (but I wish it would include OnDemand programs).  Others have reported problems with green vertical lines appearing on the display, but so far I haven't seen any new bugs.  If they were to activate eSATA for disk expansion I would actually now be satisfied with the DVR.

If Uverse comes to my neighborhood...I'm there the day it arrives.

Re: New Software/Firmware for Comcast Motorola DVRs

Another great feature that was added ... if you're in the Guide and press the Guide button again, it shows the upcoming schedule for just the selected channel.  For example, I like to watch TCM a lot.  If you're in the Guide on TCM and press the Guide button again, it shows all of the upcoming TCM shows and you can easily scroll through 2 weeks worth of shows.

Also, from everything I've heard, Uverse is a terrible product.

It's getting great reviews from anyone I know who has it around here. I guess it's what
peoples' expectations are. I just want out of Comcast without going to dish.

A friend has it and I no complaints that I have heard.

I'm just waiting for it to show up here(AT&T is working on it in my neighborhood) and then goodbye Comcast.

Alas, for me, the queuing problem returned yesterday. I was using down-arrow key to scroll thru the guide. It stopped scrolling..I hit down a few more times...nothing...then BAM....it scrolled as if queued up.
