Sort of like updating drivers on your computer. It seems to be mainly for MPEG encoding problems with analog channels, and other related video issues. Is the VOD not working a software problem ? Offline #8 02-21-2005 12:59:36 PMRe: Chicago areaProvided VOD is available in your area, VOD not working is generally a problem of routing your connection through one or more devices that cannot pass signals back to Comcast. VOD is like watching video on real player - there has to be two way communication. Common are splitters and VCRs. Your cable connection should not be routed through anything (ie: VCR) prior to going into the 6412. Offline #9 02-21-2005 1:33:00 PMRe: Chicago areaVOD is still not available in all areas. I heard from a couple people in neighboring towns that their VOD became active just lately. I was hoping mine would too. I'll just keep waiting until I hear of others near my house becoming active. Offline #12 02-24-2005 11:02:22 AMRe: Chicago areaLast night I recorded CSI NY. When I went back to watch the recording, about 5-10 minutes into the show, the screen went green for several seconds (no flashing, just bright green). I skipped over the green and didn't see any other problems. I did rewind and the green is in the recording, not some onetime event. I'm hoping others in the Chicago area saw something similar in the broadcast and it wasn't my new box. I've read about the green flashes that people have experienced in the past and I don't think this is the same thing. Offline #13 02-24-2005 4:33:57 PMRe: Chicago areaI read in the newspaper that OnDemand is now available in Northbrook, Palatine, and several other N and NW suburbs. The 'green flash' issue should only affect analog channels, and usually only if both tuners are tuned to analog channels. It's possible it was a glitch in the show itself if you were recording the HD channel. Exactly. I was looking for a little confirmation that somebody else had seen the green (on an hd channel). Offline #16 03-06-2005 3:03:33 PM

Re: Chicago areaI'm in Chicago too and got my 6412 installed on April 2nd. I checked the setup page and I still have the 9.12 firmware. Do you know if it has been sent down to us yet or if I missed the rollout time, if I'll get it later? Also, do you guys know when we are supposed to be getting the digital simulcast for the lower 99 analog channels. My signal levels are good, but they look really pathetic on my HDTV. I wonder if they halted the rollout for now. I've also heard of a 9.17 in a few areas. Re: Chicago areaThanks Andy! I didn't get a message light on this one. Thanks Comcast:( Offline #23 04-30-2005 7:58:08 AMRe: Chicago areaVery few people, if any, have getten messages about new/dropped/changed channels. I never got one when CSN-HD was added on 200, or when the digital TCM was dropped (I still have an analog version, though), or when IC became AZN, and other name changes. The last message was a few weeks ago, and it was just an ad for their digital phone service. The last REAL message was about them dropping several PPV channels. Re: Chicago areaWe got our message about TNT-HD a week after the fact. BTW: We did get a message aimed at MSU students to return their cable boxes. I assume they leave them in their dorms/apartments. When all else fails....type in FORMAT C Offline |
