DIRECTV will air all Yankee home games in HD on YES beginning 4/3

The first HD game will be the Yankees vs. the Red Sox on 4/3/05 at Yankee Stadium.

DIRECTV will air all Yankee home games in HD on YES Network.  Out of DMA DIRECTV subscribers will need to add the Sports package to get the games in HD and may to subject to black-out restrictions.

Re: DIRECTV will air all Yankee home games in HD on YES beginning 4/3

That's odd, seeing how searches on directtv.com, broadbandreports.com, and even yesnetwork.com make absolutely no reference to this whatsoever.  You pulling our chain?  The main reason Direct TV picked up YES Network in the first place was because NYC's cable company had an argument with them and blacked them out for a season.  Now that YES Network is on basic cable across New York State and it's on their own basic sports tier, why would Direct TV bother the cost of putting it in HD?  How about Red Sox fans - all NESN games are availble in HD in Boston, why would Direct TV single out the YES Network?

YES Network was carried by DIRECTV from the first day YES went live.  It's true DIRECTV and its dealers had a win fall for the 1 1/2 seasons that CableVision refused to carry YES.  However, that was just a lucky break for Yankee fans, DIRECTV and DIRECTV dealers and was not planned.

As to why DIRECTV has decided to air all of the Yankee home games in HD is just because the negotiations played out, very easy and fast.  YES has a new president, Tracy Dolgin, who was the original president of FOX Sports and is apparently well connected with other News Copr. executives, which I assume helped.

Also, YES and the Yankees are extremely popular in the tri-state NY region and across the US.  In fact, YES is the most popular regional sports channel on DIRECTV.

New England DIRECTV customers can add the Sports package and enjoy all of the Yankee Red Sox games in HD that are played at Yankee Stadium, of course, subject to black out rules.

I believe the New England area will have the Red Sox home games in HD very shortly.
