Offline #2 09-22-2005 6:56:13 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412I occasionally record to my JVC-40K D-VHS via firewire, but I too would like to record to DVD. So far, I haven't been able to record ANYTHING (OTA or DVR content) with my Panasonic E-55 DVD burner. Is it currently possible to record to DVD? If so, what are the appropriate connections between TV (Syntax LCD HD) Moto 6412 and DVD Recorder? Offline #3 09-23-2005 4:27:51 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412Unless the box is adding copy protection code, you should be able to at least record using the standard analog connections. I've 'copied' programs to VHS several times. Sony KV-30XBR910, Sony STR-DB930, Sony DVP-NS55P, JVC HR-S3800U, Motorola DCT-6412, Sony KV-13FS100, OneForAll URC-8910. I have a cheapo ilo recorder and it is DV in only. I connected the firewire to the 6412 and got nothing. Offline #8 09-27-2005 2:27:08 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412
rkkeller: Offline #9 09-30-2005 5:10:12 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412How exactly would one go about copying the contents of the DVR to the computer? I noticed there is an ethernet connection on the back of the DVR. Can I use this to transfer the programs to my computer? Offline #10 09-30-2005 5:24:07 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412
Wouldn't that be nice? Unfortunately, the ethernet connection isn't active. The only way you can get anything off the DVR is to play it back and record the output via whatever connection you have to the recording device (composite, etc.) Offline #11 09-30-2005 5:46:46 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412If... Boooo. Well that's no fun. Thank you for the quick reply. I had bookmarked this site because of all the information. I wanted to come back when I had a little more time. Unfortunately, when I had the time to investigate further the site was empty because of the hacking. Good to see information being shared again. Offline #13 10-05-2005 9:24:34 AMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412I can record both live and recorded shows onto DVD. The only problem is you cannot see the 6412 menus on the DVD recorder. So you have to change inputs and start the show and pause it then switch to the recorder and then unpause it. Offline #14 10-05-2005 10:36:59 AMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412
Seems like an awful lot of work, and not a trivial process. But I may try it. Any idea how much disk space a 1-hour HD program requires? Offline #15 10-05-2005 12:07:01 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412
Once you get all the drivers set up, it's as simple as hitting "Record" on the computer program and "Play" on the DVR. Offline #16 10-05-2005 2:14:45 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412
Yes, but that only gets the data as far as the PC. The process of setting up the data for DVD burning looks like the complicated part. Offline #17 10-05-2005 2:28:33 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412It's less complicated than it is time consuming. If I can do it with relative success, it really cannot be all that mind blowingly complex Offline #18 11-05-2005 1:20:23 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412Hi, I'm new to this so I have lots of questions. I have connected a wireless game adapter via ethernet connection to the back of the DVR box. It should allow be to FTP into the box, but it wants a username and password to do it. I tried 'annonymous' but that doesn't work. Any suggestions? I use the wireless game adapter on my Xbox regularly and it allows me to put media on my xbox to view on the tv screen. Offline #21 11-05-2005 3:28:49 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412The only way I've seen work in connecting to the box is the other way (getting data that's on the box off the box and onto a PC) using firewire. I've not seen any evidence that anyone has connected to the box to put data on it. Offline #22 11-25-2005 11:39:34 AMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412Is it possible to capture the files on the dvr to a mini dv camcorder? I'd imagine this would be time consuming but it could then be edited on a pc. I like the idea of the direct route from the box to the pc but pc is upstair and box is downstairs. Probably need a 25 foot cord. The other question I have is regarding those front three av inputs - I've tried connecting my vcr to to those plugs in hopes of recording directly from the dvr to vcr but with no success. I don't know if this is because my dvr runs through my tv. Thanks for any help and kudos on a fabulous site. Offline #23 11-25-2005 1:08:52 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412My 100% pure speculation on the camcorder thing is "Not Digitally." To get the content from the 6412 to a PC via firewire requires that a special software driver and specific software program be loaded on the PC, which I'm assuming are not available options on the camcorder. You can, of course, use the SD analog outputs (Composite video + L/R Stereo Sound) to input into the camcorder if it accepts analog input (or a VCR, or DVD Burner, etc for that matter). Offline #24 11-25-2005 2:15:38 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412Frank, thanks for the help. I've explored a number of dumping possibilities - dvd recorder, camcorder, vcr - but I think the pc is the best if I can find a long enough firewire card. Could you explain, in simple terms, what I will see on my pc when I try the transfer? Does it allow me to access my DVR Recordings? Offline #25 11-25-2005 4:20:21 PMRe: Archiving recordings from DCT-6412The method works like a VCR to VCR recording would. In simple terms, you hit "RECORD" on the PC and "PLAY" on the DVR and it records to the PC in real time (an hour recording takes an hour). On the PC, you'll see nothing except a counter going.
