You could aways wire the batteries to that button and every time she presses it... ZAP!

The easiest way is to remap the cable POWER function to a junk code that the box ignores:
Press Cable to set the correct mode.
Hold SETUP until 2 blinks.
Type 994, should get 2 blinks
Press/release SETUP, then type 00000
Press/release POWER
Should get 2 blinks.

  This also disables it from the ALL ON key.

To restore the power key, repeat the above, but press Power instead of SETUP 00000. In other words, map the original POWER onto itself. (the 'from' part of the keymap is always a key's ORIGINAL mapping.)

So you can still turn it on/off without physically having to use the button on the box:
Press Cable to set the correct mode.
Hold SETUP until 2 blinks.
Type 994, should get 2 blinks
Press/release POWER
Press/release SETUP
Press/release POWER

  Now, to send the box's power command, press/release setup first, then POWER. The SETUP key acts like a shift key, giving you a second function.

I tried this... It did disable the power button while on cable, and the shift power would work, the "ALL ON" still would power on/off all 3 devices. (DVR & TV in my case)

How did you create a macro (what steps) on the [cable] power button that sends power commands to TV & AVR?

This may be solution I'm looking for... wife and kid use the "ALL" button... can't get them to use tv- power-cable buttons.  could get them to use the "power" button.

You can program a macro on most any available button. Help and Lock/A are probably the most useless keys. Macros typically work no matter which mode is selected, so don't use a key you need to use with a particular programmed device:

I have had no luck reprogramming the ALL ON button.
I have the Lock/A mapped to the 30 sec skip... I like it near the Replay button.
I'm using the Help button as a Favorite Guide macro [exit, Menu, Menu, Enter]

If a macro is availble in all modes, then using the power key as that button won't work, unless I can remap the TV power to [shift-power], then create a macro on power
that will be [TV, shift-power, Aux, shift-power, Cable]

I would still need Cable, shift-power to power the 6412.

Is shift-power a macro or button reassignment?

Think that could work?
