Sometimes they may show, sometimes not. Sony KV-30XBR910, Sony STR-DB930, Sony DVP-NS55P, JVC HR-S3800U, Motorola DCT-6412, Sony KV-13FS100, OneForAll URC-8910. Re: The 6412 bug of the weekI've never had sound go out when viewing live, but I USED to have it go out all the time while viewing recorded shows. But come to think of it, this hasn't happened in quite some time. (Ye gads, something got fixed???) The only solution was to go back to live, then back to the reocrded program and it was fine. Oddly, the sound always seemed to disappear at a commercial break (beginning or end of same, don't remember). Not that's weird!! Or was weird, as the case may be. Offline #5 12-31-2006 11:06:47 AMRe: The 6412 bug of the weekThis used to happen a lot to me, too, and stopped some time back. HD TV shows are broadcast in DD 5.1, but a lot of times the commercials are in DD 2.0. The box appeared to have a problem switching back and forth between the two. Offline #6 01-01-2007 9:28:19 AM
Re: The 6412 bug of the weekI lose DD 5.1 often. It reverts to Dolby PL II and only a 30 minute unplugging will get the DD 5.1 back. Aggravating in situations like yesterday when I discovered I lost DD a couple hours before the Eagles game. Offline #7 01-03-2007 1:40:38 PMRe: The 6412 bug of the weeksince the latest firmware download in early November, my 6412 series II resets itself every few minutes if I'm actually doing something with it other than just watching one channel or program. re-downloading the firmware, as suggested elsewhere, didn't help. i've had a 3412 as well for about 6 months, and it is now more robust than the 3412 (although I have to unplug it to re-establish the firewire connection to my D-VHS for each new tape recorded, which is more difficult than for the 6412) so it has become my primary DVR. I have a TV with DVI inputs and am loathe to give up my two-year-old workhorse for a new 3412, quirks and all (I'll likely connect that with component and use HDMI-DVI from my D-VHS), but will bite the bullet once I've watched or recorded everything on my hard drive. The 3412/3416 with Microsoft guide s/w and firmware 12.35 have a bug that causes spontaneous reboots (not sure about 6412 or iGuide s/w). Offline #9 01-03-2007 3:51:20 PM

That's known as the "CN8 Bug". Last edited by salspalden (01-03-2007 3:53:03 PM) Offline #10 01-03-2007 3:53:06 PMRe: The 6412 bug of the week
What does that mean? Offline #11 01-03-2007 4:04:53 PM
Re: The 6412 bug of the week
If you lived in PA, NY, Del, MD, etc, you would know that whenever any Comcast box reboots, it tunes to CN8, the Comcast channel...Lynn Doyle's talk show is it's flagship...seems the only time anyone watches CN8 is after a reboot for the minute it takes you to realize what channel you're tuned to. No, if you remove power to the box it goes to CN8, standby to on...CN8, leave the room for a beer...CN8, hear spoken dialog such as "..and the killer is..."....CN8. Offline #16 03-15-2007 5:43:52 PMRe: The 6412 bug of the week
sorry i didn't reply to this at the time ... i believe it was the 16.20 firmware for the 6412, and yes, i did mean to say my 3412 was more robust than my 6412 after the firmware update in November. I finally swapped out the 6412 yesterday after watching or recording to D-VHS everything i wanted on my old box, and I have to admit I'll miss it, despite its quirks and problems, because it was my first DVR, it convinced me to take the HD plunge much earlier than I expected, and having to learn about it (through forums like this) taught me a lot about home video and audio (for example, that I could record HD to D-VHS, which is something I wouldn't want to give up now) and conditioned me to keeping more informed about home electronics. my new 3416 is working quite well -- for now ...
