Seems like more and more the volume differences between program and commercials and/or
between channels is more sever. Might be my imagination but sure seems worse these days.

I do use a sound system and also run the TV speakers. After setting TV and AUX levels to mid-level loudness, sound level is then routinely adjusted with the remote which adjusts the DVR volume level. Without some research, can’t tell you exactly what the wiring details are.

In any case, any thoughts on the causes of or suggestions for a setup to minimize this annoying variability issue?

In the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, all the Comcastic commercials are WAY louder than any regular programming and other commercials. We run the 6412 to a surround sound system, and my wife and I basically have to mute these channels every time they come on.

Ever since we got digital simulcast for the basic channels, the locally inserted commercials are way louder than the rest of the program.

Comcast isn't making your commercials louder, the stations are the culprits.

If you're talking about HD channels, the switch from the sound being spread 5.1 (shows) to 2.0 (most commercials) will also make a difference.

Yes, Comcast also tends to blast their commercials. The Slowskys are Loudskys.

At Comcast see them totally free

I'm going to be pissed.

Good questions. I didn't notice which forum it was in. Care to comment, RobertAdler? Moving to "General Use."

There's always been a post delay for spam protection purposes. I just went through the admin, and I don't even see it as a configurable option. I think it's built in.

I always mute the commercials. If the advertisers think making the commercials louder to a point where the consumer will mute them so be it. Not a very good business practice if you ask me.
