Let me know when they hit $150. That may be the point where it's worth the risk that I'll up and drop cable all together when DirecTV realizes its 150 HD channel mojo. $300-$400 for a box that'll be useless to me if I pull that trigger is a little steep.

Seriously, though. (that was semi-serious) if they're going to offer TiVo functionality on my free little cable box, why in the world would I buy a Series 3 at all?

Agreed. Wait and see --- Comcast/TIVO deal or a cheaper Series 3. That would be a nice thing to compare and then decide. We'll see.

What makes you think your little cable box will be FREE when it is equipped with TiVo functionality? I'm already paying $10/month for a Comcast DVR which uses software far inferior to TiVo's and I assume the TiVo-functionality will cost several dollars more, at least.

(And BTW, as long as Congress allows Comcast to have exclusivity on the only channel that shows 100 Phillies games a year, I don't care how many channels DirecTV has - I'm not switching)

I didn't say TiVo would be free. I said the cable box is free. The $10 a month is for the service. Just like the $13 a month TiVo charges me above hardware costs is for the service.

The Phillies aren't exclusive to Comcast any more. FiOs can carry them now. I'm sure DirecTV isn't far behind.

I'm still waiting to see what the COMCAST/TIVO joint service is before committing to the separate TIVO service/box.

I haven't heard of any Comcast market offering the TiVo option yet.

That's because it isn't available yet. Some are saying that it will available at the end of next month.

Well, Frank, I couldn't wait any longer for the COMCAST/TIVO package, whatever and whenever the heck it is. Amazon had a sale and with the TIVO $200 rebate, net cost $400 for a Series 3 TIVO box.

Got it and installed it today. The Comcast guy was spot on. He arrived exactly at 1:00 and had both cards in and done by 1:20.

So, as much as I love you guys and all the 6412 input that got me thru this past 1 1/2 years, it's goodbye. I'll be frequenting the TIVO Forum, no doubt.

Already set up all by Wishlist stuff. As you know from my prior posts, I simply didn't use ON DEMAND, so that big feature won't be missed. But THE WISHLIST IS BACK.
