Michael Vick: Rat Scumbag

As much as I love electronics and technology and music and entertainment and gossip, some of you know that my true love and overriding interest in life is dogs. I have three. My job in life is to protect them, and to make sure I give them a better life than they would have had going into any other family.  It would not have been right for me to take them in knowing that they could have had a better life somewhere else.  I take my responsibility to my dogs very seriously, and I love my dogs completely.

My love for dogs extends beyond my own dogs to other dogs too.  Not just neighborhood dogs, or dogs that are part of my family's family.  As I get older, it seems to be extending to all dogs.  The more I delve into the dog world, the more I find myself concerned for the way we allow dogs to be treated in our society.

And before you get started, yes I know that a lot of horrible stuff happens in the world. A lot of innocent beings are maltreated. I know this.  And if I spent my life thinking about it and trying to correct all of it, if anyone did, it would destroy them.  So we pick and choose our own crusades according to where our interest lie and where we feel we can make a difference.  I can't travel the world castrating sex offenders or making people care about their elderly parents.  I can act in my home, in my community, and maybe even further out via this wonderful communication method, to effect the perception that abusing dogs is somehow acceptable or excusable.  I see that we're starting to examine it.  It's not happening fast enough.

Which brings me to Michael Vick, overrated Quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.  Vick was indicted (not accused in the media, not under investigation...indicted) on Federal felony conspiracy charges related to his alleged involvement in a dog fighting ring.  Among the charges in the indictment is that he personally abused and killed dogs with his own hand.  The crimes these dogs committed: performing poorly in testing to see if they would be good fighting dogs.  The dogs were killed by various disgusting methods such as being doused in water and electrocuted, hanging, drowning, and being repeatedly slammed into the ground.  8 dogs in all were apparently killed by Vick and his crew.  Countless others were injured and irreparably mentally damaged by fighting.

Because he is a big star and big stars can get away with anything in this country, including killing their wives and random waiters, both the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons are sitting on their hands and doing nothing.  This despite having (correctly) taken harsh action against other lesser-known players for less serious accusations.

It's not right.  I urge everyone to use the Humane Society's email form to voice their protest to Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL.

Animal torture for the amusement of humans is disgusting and depraved.

Re: Michael Vick: Rat Scumbag

I have two dogs myself and can't imagine how someone can look at dogs and think, hey what a good idea it would be to have them kill each other for my pleasure. What an emotionless piece of trash. And to hell with the leadership of the NFL for kisssing it's players asses.

That indictment is hard to read.  To think that some people take pleasure from watching animals kill one another is outright disgusting.  These dog owners treat these dogs like machines.  If they don't work, they get rid of them and start over.
