AFP: September 11th "Extremist Attacks"

AFP are scumbags.  Did you know that September 11th was an "extremist attack" and NOT a terrorist attack?

A bank building overlooking New York's Ground Zero site caught fire Saturday, sending black smoke billowing across the skyline where the Twin Towers once stood.

[...]

The skyscraper was under construction after being pulled down following the extremist attacks of September 11, 2001, Schelling said.

Those airplane attacks destroyed the 110-story towers of the World Trade Center which once stood on the site at the southern tip of Manhattan island.

pourri personne - they tell me that means scumbag in French.

Re: AFP: September 11th "Extremist Attacks"

Are we saying that the terrorists that attacked the WTC were not extremists?  Is all of Islam at fault?  I just don't believe that.  Do you believe that the crucification of Christ was heralded by all Jews and not just the zealots?

Re: AFP: September 11th "Extremist Attacks"

"Extremist" is a much softer term than "Terrorist." Extremist has a certain slight connotation of understandability that Terrorist does not.

Extremist: One who advocates or resorts to measures beyond the norm, especially in politics.
Terrorist: One that engages in acts or an act of terrorism.

So September 11th was merely a "measure beyond the norm" and not "an act of terrorism."

And, by the way, "Terrorist" has no more Islamic implication than "Extremist"  does.

Re: AFP: September 11th "Extremist Attacks"

But the point is that the terrorists ARE extremists.

My note on Islam was followed up by an analogy about Judaism.  It's just that 2001 is lot more recent than the events at Christ's passing.  To listen to our government all terrorists are Muslims.

At any rate, I understand your feelings toward the two words and I respect that.  I just am not as extreme (pun intended) about the use of those words.

The BBC seems even stranger than the French:

The BBC has dropped plans to show a fictional terror attack in an episode of Casualty to avoid offending Muslims.

My ancestors came from England, but I think they really could've used a good revolution of their own a couple of hundred years ago.  Compared to "real Europe" it's a mess.

They bathe.

They speak in a way that I can (mostly) understand.

I'm all for them.
