Instructions on Getting Revenge on Junk Mailers

It's something we've all at least thought of doing at one point or another: Mailing back Business Reply envelopes to those who sent them.  Instructables has detailed steps on how send Business Reply envelopes back presented in a humorous fashion.  More interesting, though, is one commenter on the landing page, who says he tapes these Business Reply envelopes to packages full of junk and they are accepted by the Post Office and sent back to the junk mailer.

Have you ever sent the envelope (or something else) back in retaliation for the steady flow of junk mail?

Re: Instructions on Getting Revenge on Junk Mailers

I send almost everyone of them back.  Sometimes I put other junk back into their envelope. They have to pay the postage. But I read that it really doesn't do much. Some clerk just opens it, and tosses it. The powers that be never even see it. But it makes me feel good. I also get junk mail addressed to my deceased father (2001). I usually write something like "He's dead you idiots" and send it back. The best one was an advert. for life insurance sent to him. I wrote "You're too late ".

I think it was Andy Rooney or someone on 60 minutes that suggested this tactic a long time ago.

I think the "ripping into confetti" tactic the author suggests is a nice touch.

A nice fine cross-cut shredding will produce quite a mess at the other end when it's opened.

Re: Instructions on Getting Revenge on Junk Mailers

By way of an update, you should know that The Consumerist has verified that taping the envelope to a heavy item and mailing it back does not work.

Sending their own junk back to them, of course, still works like a charm.
