After reading some posts, it seems I can access the remote for my DCH3416 using a JP1.2 cable, some free software and my computer. Has anyone done this? Does it allow you to download a backup of the current settings? Or, is this more trouble than it's worth?

I've done it, although I've only done a bit of experimenting with the Comcast remote, as I don't normally use it. I normally have another OneForAll that is JP1 (JP1.0) that otherwise works the same. You can add codes, create a custom layout for your device, etc...

The JP1.2 interface requires a serial port. It WILL work with a USB-to-serial adapter.

There are links to where you can buy pre-made cable, or parts to make your own. I built my own JP1 cable (and had to buy a parallel port card for my new computer), but bought the JP1.x cable.
