Comcast Central Nightmare

So I go into my menu today and hit "Main Menu."  Suddenly I'm sitting in "Comcast Central;"  a hellish maze of disconnected voices and pictures.  I hit news, and all the news channels are there.  I'm thinking "I have got to get out of this nightmare" so I hit exit, but it just takes me back into Comcast Central.  I hit exit again.  I'm back at news.  I hit main menu, but it just keeps bringing me back in. This has to be some kind of joke.  When did I lose control of my DVR?

Anyway, I finally just started entering channel numbers and I was expelled from the strange new world of Comcast Central.

Why can't I just look at the stupid messages without being flung into a dangerous world?

Re: Comcast Central Nightmare

Yeah, all these new channels are just Comcastic.  Anyone else have the "HD Premium channels On Demand" dedicated channel?  Fortunately, this channel does nothing more than take me to the regular On Demand screen and provides no shortcut to the Premium Channel HD On Demand section.  We also have a HD Movies On Demand, Free HD Movies On Demand, and HD Music On Demand section.  They waste resources on this crap when they won't fix something as simple as the whack-a-mole problem with series recordings.  Don't even get me started on that problem.

The only change I have seen in my area that doesn't truly agree with me is the banner that is displayed on the bottom of the full screen guide that alternates every time you change guide pages.  Until I got used to it, I began to get frustrated when hitting the down cursor wouldn't immediately change pages.  Other than that, I stick to the HD channels and OnD without problem.

Just don't wind up in Comcast Central by mistake. It's like quicksand.  The more you struggle, the harder it is to get out.  Or is that the Chinese Finger toy thing? Either way, beware.

Re: Comcast Central Nightmare

Perhaps I am missing something here, but where is this Comcast Central you speak of? is it a channel in your market lineup or a section in the service?

Re: Comcast Central Nightmare

Hit "Menu" and then the first selection (used to be "Main Menu") is now Comcast Central. It appears to be several added interactive channels all tied in together under the "Comcast Central" moniker.  I don't know how else to describe it.  It's ghoulish.  It's an invitation to burn in.

Either way, it's not as bad as the banner ad at the bottom of the guide because I can avoid it (except today, before I knew it existed).

Ewwwwwww... I hope I don't see this.  I remembered hearing about it a while back but figured it had died on the vine.  Will check tonight to see if I have the same.

Re: Comcast Central Nightmare

Comcast Central is just a group of interrelated channels with a mix of OnDemand-like interactivity and regular channels. On mine, they are 960 (main), 961 (news), 962 (kids), 963 (sports). As you move from page to page, you are actually just changing channels. That is why LAST doesn't seem to work. It just goes back to the last channel. To truly get out of it, you have to type in a regular channel number, or pick one of the entries (you can use your cursor to highlight a picture, and hit OK/Select to change to it). You have the same issue if you have the HD Movies channels (283-285 on mine), which show interactive box cover links to OnDemand movies.

Also by me, there are a growing count of OnDemand link channels. Picking one just takes you to a particular menu in OnDemand.

All of this was made possible with the firmware/software update.

Re: Comcast Central Nightmare

I found out last night that picking "OnDemand" from Comcast Central takes you to the main (old style) menu, not OnDemand.  Comcastic Bugtastic!

I would have expected it if I had been hitting "LAST" (PREV on my Harmony). I was hitting "EXIT" which should, you know, exit.  It does everywhere else in the box.

Started getting the bottom banner two nights ago. Still haven't seen comcast central though. I bravely looked for it last night.

Re: Comcast Central Nightmare

I miss all the fun, being up here in Seattle without the iGuide "extras".  I have to be satisfied with just being concerned about the actual content of the available programming.   hmm

This "feature" may not have hit the West Markets yet.  I too have noticed the increased options to get to specific areas of OnD...more of a site map for OnDemand.
