i'll cross post my message from the other thread here...
after a few hours playing around (the default setup isn't right - it has no dvr controls) i got something i like.
i have a page up, page down, day+, day- for the guide, a swap button, and the TV pic button changes aspsct ratios on my tv (i learned this command to get it in this menu). i also programmed the stop command when you end the tv activity. this stops the dvr if you are watching a program (since it no longer turns it off).
i need a few days to see how it is working out, then i'll probably tweak it again...

I use the Clear Button as my Swap. It's in a nice place and frees up one of the soft button on the LCD display.
Also, I use the PIC button to access my most valuable TV functions. On the LCD display I have Aspect Ratio, Picture Mode, Input, and Display. Then for the Menu button I have MENU so that when I am in PIC mode when I press Menu it brings up the TV menu not the DVR menu.
I also use the SOUND Button for my receiver functions.
I am very interested to see how your TV and Receiver functions work learned into your DVR Activity. If I change to using all 6 buttons, not just 4 I might give it a try.
I look forward to seeing the different ways people have their remote set up.

This setup looks pretty good. I just ordered a 680 to replace my 676. I've read that it's possible to use the setup from one Harmony remote for another. Does anyone know if/how I can port the program from my 676 to my new 680 since virtually everything will be the same?

THere are instructions for transferring programming from your old harmony remote to the new one on the harmony webpage, it's quite easy. You will have to do some fine tuning.

i made a new activity to record things from the dvr to a vhs recorder.
in order to get it to work, i had to add a second 6412 (i have only one). i found that when using just one, when i programmed the record button to work the vcr, it changed it in other activities too. i use this dvr only in the record dvr activity, and named it accordingly to be able to tell the difference when programming.
here's what i did. since the directional arrows around the ok button control the dvr, i used the regular buttons (play, rec, rew, ff) to control the vcr. so far, it works great.

With my Home Theater Master remote I programmed a 3 minute commercial skip on one of the macro buttons, I can't seem to do this with the Harmony 680. I know it doesn't do macros, but is there another way to do this? Already missing my MX-500

I'm thinking this may be the remote for me too as far as family friendly for the DVR, TV, DVD and VCR but I don't plan on using the Media Center PC. What is that and can it be deleted from the icon selections?

Yes you can delete it, when I was on the phone with customer service I asked them. Just go to Home on the members page. You can delete Activity there on the right hand side. Doug

JayMan, I have the 680. The Media button is used to program your favorite channels. Really cool. Positives: Logitech Customer Service is TOP NOTCH. Negatives: Battery Life, and buttons all look the same. Go for the 688.

Was there something wrong with the 676?
I'm leaning towards this remote... the $50 rebate is helping me lean, plus I like the button layout.
I have a friend that has a 688, that is in a drawer... He said that getting the Macros right is a pain.. -which sounds like it wasn't using discrete codes... He is back to using the remote that came with the Moto6412..
It may be time to do some programming on the old pronto....

Amen on the great Customer Service. I emailed in a minor glitch I was having..and the process is pretty cool. The Customer Rep made changes to my profile online and I merely had to go online and update my remote. The fix didn't quite work the way I wanted it to but the rep stayed with me all the way. It was nice because the same rep handled my 'case' all the way through.
They gave me answers...and solutions....I like that. Comcast can learn from them.
