New Shows: Fall 2007

Let's use this space to post reviews of the new network shows for this fall.  My wife and I are looking to add a couple shows to our lineup, but nothing has much caught our attention yet.  The only new show we've started watching is Dirty Sexy Money, and that was mainly because Peter Krause usually doesn't disappoint.

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

If you haven't added "Friday Night Lights" from last year (and, based on its ratings last year, it appears most didn't), tonight is your chance to jump in.  It's the second season premiere.

We really like Journeyman.  We also get a kick out of Chuck.  Both are on NBC Monday nights.

Geez, all three shows are NBC.  Nothing else has really jumped out at us.  "Life" was OK (based on the last scene of the pilot it will get better). That's another NBC show.

Forgot one: Gossip Girl on CW.  It may not be a lot of people's cup of tea, but we really like it.  It's pretty dark and it's funny.  Very OC-ish. If you liked early OC, I think you'll like Gossip Girl.  I think the characters are well drawn - no one is a complete hero (OK, you got me: The main dude has no deep seated character flaws) and no one is a complete villain. Leighton Meester is one of my favorite young actresses, and she is delightful as the bad girl.

Going into the season I was pretty juiced over Bionic Woman (NBC again), but the premiere was a bit disappointing and I've read that the premiere was better than EP2.

We've already dumped K-Ville (and Cavemen, needless to say) from our schedule.

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

We loved last season of Friday Night Lights, so we'll definitely be watching tonight.  I have a feeling the show won't make it the full season, but we'll watch as long as we can.  While moving it to Friday seems like an intelligent move, I can't see it resulting in more viewers than last season.  It's kind of a miracle the show was even picked up for a second season, but that just shows that sometimes networks need to lead with great programming (even if it doesn't resulting in great ratings).

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

Okay, just new shows:

Life - OK, haven't watched Ep2 yet.
Journeyman - My wife and I both love this one.
K'Ville - Wife ditched after 10mins, I ditched after Ep2
Bionic Woman - Pilot was good, haven't watched Ep2...
Big Shots - Big flops
Cavemen - Deleted after 2mins
Back to You - FUNNY! and we don't really get into sitcoms
Chuck - I like it, wife doesn't
Reaper - Great show, I've been watching. Wife hasn't.

Edits:

Pushing Daisies - We watched the first 10mins so far, intriguing.  Will watch more.

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

I am interested in more network shows than in the past few years. Of last years new shows, only '30 Rock' and 'Heroes' survived. I miss 'Knights of Prosperity'.

So far this year, I've been watching, and so far will continue to watch: Reaper, Chuck

I've only seen one show, but like it so far: Aliens in America, Pushing Daisies

I've only seen one show, and am undecided on Cavemen and Carpoolers.

I'm so-so on Back To You and Bionic Woman.

Mondays are the worst right now. With 'Chuck', 'How I Met Your Mother' (we'll FINALLY meet the mother this year) and 'Everyone Hates Chris' all on at the same time, I had to program my VCR to record one of them! (Although I've noticed Chuck is being repeated on Saturdays).

Not network, but 'Flash Gordon' on SciFi should be renamed 'Flush Garbage.' Surprisingly boring. I'm also worried about Stargate: Atlantis. The ads keep mentioning 'more action', which just sounds like lots more guns and blood. At least there are new episodes of 'How Its Made' on The Science Channel.

Sony KV-30XBR910, Sony STR-DB930, Sony DVP-NS55P, JVC HR-S3800U, Motorola DCT-6412, Sony KV-13FS100, OneForAll URC-8910.

I like the naration on "Pushing Daisies", kind of reminds of Peter Falk reading to his grandson on "The Princess Bride".

Not exactly Dale Arden of days gone by:

And then we have....

Wonder if she's available to replace Kate Bosworth for Superman: Man of Steel.  Margot Kidder was 39 the last time she played Lois Lane.  32 isn't that much of a stretch.

Down here in the south (and I'm sure its the same in the southwest), where real high school football is a very big deal, many have questioned the wisdom of scheduling the show during actual games.  FNL is definitely one of our favorite shows, and we don't go to hs. games anymore, but I think Friday night is a bad choice.

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

Among our favorites of new shows:
Life
Journeyman
Pushing Daisies

Still on the fence, leaning toward keeping watching:
Back to You
Bionic Woman
Carpoolers

Probably falling to the wayside:
Chuck  (Liked the first episode, but starting getting bored during episode 2...getting too absurd)

Never bothered to record or watch:
Cavemen
Kville
Big Shots
Private Practice

Have recorded, but haven't yet watched:
Reaper (my daughter & son-in-law recommended it highly)
Dirty Sexy Money

Still watching our favs from last year:
House
The Unit
Heroes
Numbers
Criminal Minds
Supernatural
Earl

Can't wait for the return of:
Lost
Medium
24
Men in Trees
Jericho

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

We finally got to watching Pushing Daisies last night.  What a fun little show.  I loved Wonderfalls and the lead dude and the creator are ex-Wonderfalls, so it was pretty assured I'd like it.

I could do without so much narration to tell you the truth.  I get it - it's a fairy tale. I find narration to be a cheap form of exposition; a refuge for lazy writers.  It's a little surprising, because the show is probably the best written new show of the year.

Good on ABC for "pushing" the hour-long show format beyond cops, doctors and lawyers.  They're not exactly having an admirable fall 2007 showing (Cavemen, Private Practice, Big Shots) but at least they're trying different things (Pushing Daisies, Carpoolers).

I'm about 2/3 of the way through EP 1 of Flash Gordon.  It's not horrible, and even if it was she could make me endure a lot of horrible.

Re: New Shows: Fall 2007

I'm not sure why Flash Gordon gets such a bad rap. Based on EP1, it's not the best show I've ever seen, but it's not worse than your average sci-fi.

The best pilot I've ever seen (by a mile) was Alias.

I've seen every Flash episode.  I like Sci-fi and I agree, not the best. It's
just OK with great eye candy. Good for the soul.
