help needed for a dct 6412

I was given a 6412 terminal that was previously from the US.  I called Shaw cable to register it and they said that it could be done but when I plugged it in it comes up with the boot menu amd then the hunt loop which goes on continuously.  I tried to reboot by unplugging the power and then holding the power and menu button down but I still come up with the hunt loop.  Any help would be great. thanks

If it's a US box it likely belongs to a cable company.
