Charter: We Deleted Your Web Mail...Oh, Well

Charter Communications seems to have an "Oh, Well" attitude about deleting the stored web mail of about 14,000 users.  They are, of course, working hard to make sure it doesn't happen again.  How about working hard to prevent it in the first place, or at least taking the "working easy" approach of making a back up in case it does?

Yesterday morning, January 21, 2008, routine maintenance on our e-mail service resulted in the loss of existing e-mail content for a small group of our Charter High-Speed® Internet customers. If you are receiving this communication, your e-mail account was likely impacted.

This accidental loss of content impacted some users whose e-mail content was stored on the Charter e-mail servers. For affected customers, we are unable to recover the lost content. Customers who use e-mail client software (such as Outlook®, Outlook Express®, etc.) may face less exposure and have lost only content since their last e-mail session.

Our technicians have identified and corrected the issue. Safeguards are being put in place to help prevent this type of issue from happening again.
