American Idol 7 Top 6 Recaps and Elimination Predictions

So I despise the work of Andrew Lloyd Webber (who is a Lord, not a mere Sir) and feel that he is a hack.  He's the Stephen King of musicals. Sue me, it's my opinion.  Seems like a nice enough guy (if a little creepy), but I just can't take his trite populist output. Obviously, that's going to taint my impression of this night a bit.

I don't know what's up with Paula, but she was at perhaps her most incomprehensible level tonight ever.

Syesha turned in a good performance, but I doubt it will be enough to keep her out of the bottom three.  Out of all of them, I feel like I have the least idea what Syesha is about.

Jason Castro feels he's too cool for musicals. He phoned it in, and he should go.

Brooke needs to get herself together if she's given another chance.  We get it - you're flighty.  It's cute, but at this point it's kind of like you're not taking this whole thing too seriously. I still want to root for Brooke, but it's getting harder every week because she's making it harder. I don't think the vocal was as bad as the judges said it was, but I do think she needs to get her head in the game.  I voted for her tonight, but I believe I'm off the Brooke train for good.  She doesn't even have Kristy Lee's white pants assets to fall back on.

David Archuleta - I just can't with this squinty bastard. What was that?  Are you a man or a broad or what?  Lawrence Welk has been dead more than 15 years.  Who in their right mind would ever buy an album of that?

Carly brought down the house, and David Cook really turned in an admirable performance.  If they aren't the final two, I'm going to be disappointed.

Go ahead, let me have it.

I agree with you completely.  (I'm afraid to think of how the speed-texting teenies are going to vote, though.)  Carly doesn't seem to always get the support she deserves, but David Cook looks ready to leave the other David (the garden gnome) in his dust.  I can't get excited about Syesha, even when she turns in a decent performance.  Brooke seems to have lost all her confidence.  The less said about Jason the better.

I was not gonna look at the forum tonight because I haven't seen tonights show yet.  But Frank, I gotta tell ya dude, if I had to write up what I thought would happen tonight ahead of time, I'd probably write just what you did. Without even watching it, I already know I'll agree with you.  It's what I expected for tonight.

The only surprise for me was David Cook's performance.  I was afraid he'd try to rock it, and blow it.

P.S. -- I just ran across a reference to a song from J.C. Superstar that would've been perfect for Brooke:
"Could We Start Again, Please?"  roll

Re: American Idol 7 Top 6 Recaps and Elimination Predictions

I think Syesha's performance last night was head and shoulders above the rest.  She has found a niche, finally.  She was fun to watch, looked sexier than hell, and brought great energy to her piece.  She's got a place in musical theater.  David C sounded great to me until his final note.  Carly rocked the house.  I saw JC Superstar back in '72 with Carl Anderson doing her song.  While she was she was performing, I smiled and had a great flashback to the original.  David A, hmmmm, sounded just fine, but Jesus, where's the emotion?  Brooke, get a grip, PLEASE!  Jason, WTF was that?

So, in order from best to worst, for me:

Syesha
Carly
David C
David A
Brooke, Jason (take your pick)

I'm going out on a limb, only because Brooke got better after her gaffe, and pick Jason, once again, to go home tonight.

Re: American Idol 7 Top 6 Recaps and Elimination Predictions

I am stunned.  I doubt all the "Carly had her shot at fame when she was Carly Hennessey" hype did her in.  I am more apt to believe it was "This is AMERICAN Idol" sentiment. Honestly, while craptastic Jason is still in the competition, the competition is a joke.

I'm trying to think of another year when the best singer of the season wasn't in the finale. I can't.  It hasn't always been the best two singers at the end (Justin / Bo / Taylor), but the best singer has always been there.

Did we witness a shark-jumping moment on live TV?

I liked the stunned silence in the auditorium. Someone should have yelled "HOLY S" right at that moment.  I mean at the theater - I yelled it at home.

Seriously - am I wrong?  In my mind it's Kelly->Carrie->Carly->McPhee in that order.  She's the third best that has ever sung on that show.  She left at top 6? My mind is blown.

By the way Leona Lewis looks like a dude in the face and in the legs.

That sums up my AI night tonight.

Re: American Idol 7 Top 6 Recaps and Elimination Predictions

Well I guess I fall into the category of not botherin to vote this season. I would have voted for Carly every week. She was my pick to win it all.

Sorry though Frank...I think (as if we all wouldn't guess I would), I have Kat ahead of Carly. For me, Kat is the total package. (And she likes older guys....).

Gonna be some great water cooler talk tomorrow. And that's just what the network wants.

I give up.  It's definitely not a singing contest.  And Leona Lewis sucks.  Has she declared for the NFL draft?
