DVR Chatter

My motorola DVR DCT6416 III is flashing 8888 all the time (flickering really).  I have a full hard drive of programming I really dont want to lose.  The cable company (cox) could not help.  They had me just get a nother DVR after I told them I would just look online on how to either fix or transfer my shows to my new one.  ANy help would be great.  I have had thie problem in the past when the power goes out or something.  I just keep plugging in back in over and over until it reboots.  Normally the 8888 goes away and it gets going but this time its not at all.
