activating a dct-6412-2005

one of the numbers on the bottom of the case needed to activate my unit is partially smudge out I tried to cross reference the serial # with Motorola no luck. any suggestions? thanks.

Is this one you bought? Where are you trying to authorize your box? If it's in the US, good luck. Most providers in the U.S. will not support or allow boxes they don't own to be used on their systems. If you bought it on-line from someplace like EBay or similar, it could be stolen.

  In Canada, owning the DVR is the norm.

  If it's something you are renting, then just get it replaced.

Maybe I'm missing something, but didn't your cable company activate the box when they installed it?  If not, why not just go trade it in with them for another box with all the numbers in tact.

Now I get it.  Yeah, if you buy a black/gray market box online you're probably going to have trouble getting it activated.  The numbers are most likely smudged to prevent the actual owner (cable co) from being able to trace it back to whomever stole it.

I contacted Motorola again with the correct serial# & they gave me docsis & f/g#s appearently for some reason they will only do this if the unit is not in the USA.Cheers.
