Incorrect system time on my 6412About a week ago, the system time changed on my 6412 so all my recordings are now missing the first 30-45 seconds. While it's frustrating to miss the first 30-45 seconds of every recording, it seems like more of an issue to make myself vulnerable to the issues associated with setting series recordings to start early. I realize that we have no way of changing the system time on the 6412, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if Comcast explicity sets that time, or they try to synch if up with programming. Who knew such a little change could be so irritating. Offline #2 08-17-2006 4:17:53 PMRe: Incorrect system time on my 6412The time is broadcast on the OOB (Out-Of-Band) channel (a special frequency which is the downstream data channel for the Guide and other information). If you box is wrong, then they are sending the wrong time. Try calling them and tell them the time is wrong. Hopefully they will reset their clocks. Re: Incorrect system time on my 6412Will the comcastic CSR have any idea what I'm talking about if I call and tell them my system time is incorrect? Offline #4 08-18-2006 9:13:55 AMRe: Incorrect system time on my 6412Just tell them that the clock on your DVR is incorrect and it is not allowing you to record the whole program. When they tell you that they will replace the DVR, remind them that the time comes from the head end not the box. Insist that they pass the word to the head end. Offline #5 08-18-2006 9:23:54 AM
Re: Incorrect system time on my 6412Okay I just emailed the issue in. In the past, I've received a response within 24 hours so hopefully this is the case again. I figured emailing the issue would be easier than trying to explain this issue to an incompetent CSR. I know what you mean with syndicated programs and the local news, which both start early here as well. I didn't realize that the networks synched their programing with the atomic clock. Offline #6 08-18-2006 4:27:35 PMRe: Incorrect system time on my 6412Program timing is somewhat variable. Even the major networks are off a bit sometimes, and I don't just mean the delibrate 61-minute shows like Lost, which are usually properly scheduled. For example, Jay Leno always starts 30 seconds early and usually ends 30-60 seconds late. Cartoon Network often can be a few minutes off, especially at night.
